The strike is needle sharp as expected for this format, and the surfaces are amazingly clean and fresh. 1876. NGC graded Proof 66 Ultra Cameo. Lovely rich golden toning. Only 45 struck, and this is one of the finest to survive. The diagnostic die scratch from the base of the first A in AMERICA toward the M is present, seen on all Proofs. The color is classic orange-gold, with a hint of a minor speck in the upper left field below the first T of STATES. Although this is the Centennial year issue, mintages were low for the gold dollars and survival rates were typically low.
